PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE RESULTS OF THE
XVII INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR
"POWER ENGINEERING FOR INDUSTRY '2019"
International Exhibition Centre,
15 Brovarsky Ave., Kyiv, Ukraine
XVІІ International Trade Fair "Power Engineering for Industry '2019" that took place on November, 5‑7 in the capital of Ukraine at the International Exhibition Center together with the trade fairs "ЕLECTRO INSTALL", "OILGASEXPO" and "MINING & MINERALS EXPO" in the International Exhibition Center successfully completed its work. The events took place within the frames of the International Forum "Fuel and Energy Complex of Ukraine: the Present and the Future"
The exhibition event which has no analogue in Ukraine once again brought together the representatives of government and business, science and industry to implement an innovative scenario for the development of Ukrainian energy, to increase the level of energy efficiency of the national economy, to search the new directions for energy diversification, to develop a saving and environmental model of energy consumption and energy conservation.
This year, a powerful demonstration area of about 12,000 square meters presented a wide range of products for all units of the energy chain: production, generation, transmission, distribution and consumption of energy resources. A large‑scale exposition of modern technologies and equipment was presented by 332 companies from 24 countries.
On November 5, the official opening ceremony of the Forum and the trade fairs was attended by the Deputy Minister of Energy and the Environment of Ukraine Stanislav Kovalevsky, Chairman of the Coal Industry Subcommittee of the Committee on Energy Housing and Utility Services of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykhailo Bondar, the Hero of Ukraine, the President of Assosiation "Ukrhydroenergo" Semen Potashnik, the President of the International Council for Large Electricity Systems CIGRE in Ukraine Alexander Svetelik, Her Majesty's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Melinda Simmons and other honored guests.
Welcoming the participants and guests of the Forum and exhibitions, Stanislav Kovalevsky emphasized the importance of taking into account the environmental component in the development of the coal industry. He also noted: "Ensuring energy security will be possible, including through efficient subsoil use and the implementation the latest technologies".
Taking into consideration the fact that the exposition of six British companies was organized by the British Embassy for the first time, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Melinda Simmons during her speech emphasized that the United Kingdom supports Ukraine on its way to energy independence and noted: "Our companies can help you to realize the most ambitious plans, optimize costs and make the contribution to the Ukraine's energy independence".
The structural transformation processes in the electricity market have had a positive impact on the dynamics of quantitative and qualitative indicators of participants and visitors of the trade fairs "Power Engineering for Industry '2019" and "ELECTRO INSTALL". More and more global and domestic leaders in the electrical and engineering industries ‑ drivers of innovative and digital technologies are participating in exhibitions. Their high‑tech developments and equipment make it possible to accelerate significantly the operation of electric power, electrotechnical and electromechanical systems and complexes, significantly increase the level of automation of production and reduce the energy consumption of industrial and household consumers.
The exhibitions attracted the attention of numerous visitors ‑ representatives of many industries and other fields of activity working in the fields of energy, electric power, electrical engineering, electromechanics, thermal power, energy management, construction, engineering, etc. During three days of the exhibitions, 9113 visitors from 49 countries were registered.
The business program of the Forum was attended by energy industry experts, government and business representatives, mechanical engineering leaders, representatives of international organizations, relevant public services, industry associations and communities, scientific institutions.
Among the business events of the Forum there were a number of events dedicated to the beginning of the new model of the electricity market in Ukraine:
The VI All‑Ukrainian Power Engineers Workshop has traditionally brought together the leading experts, executives and engineers of energy companies, industrial enterprises, power generation products, and other energy professionals.
During the workshop, considerable attention was paid to the analysis of the transformation processes occurring in the electricity market, reliability of the power system functioning and ways of its provision, construction of a long‑term balance of power capacities, introduction of energy‑saving technologies in the fields of electricity production and transmission, which influence the competitiveness of existing power facilities.
It was about the problems and challenges that the participants of the new electricity market faced in ensuring the reliable operation of the Ukrainian UES, maintaining the parameters of electricity within the specified limits, as well as the stable functioning of the electricity market and termination of unprofitable work in certain segments of it.
Atomic Energy Day, the main topic of which was the conference "Atomic Energy in the Transformation Period". The President of Energoatom Yuriy Nedashkovsky set the tone for the strategic panel: "The State and Nuclear Energy: Interaction Vectors for Growing Economy and High Social Standards" and invited panel members to try to identify the formula for interaction: State and Nuclear Energy or State vs Nuclear Energy, together or against, or maybe away? and find the answer to the question: "What should be done to overcome this pernicious relationship format that is difficult to call interaction at all?"
During the round table "New Electricity Market: Problems and Solutions" under the guidance of NEC Ukrenergo, the issues related to the problems arising in the electricity market, in particular the balancing market and the support services market, the questions on the calculation of commercial data accounting, billing and acts formation were clarified. There was a discussion between market participants and the Transmission System Operator.
According to the survey results, 98% of respondents consider participating in next year's events. The participating companies also noted that the International Exhibition Center is the most comfortable and convenient venue for exhibitions due to the developed infrastructure and location.
