ABOUT THE CONGRESS
VIII International Congress of Power Engineers is a powerful national and international platform for the competent discussion of the important issues on restoring the Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Despite the fact that the war is still going on, this year's Congress will unite experts, government officials, scientists, energy and electrical market specialists under one roof to form plans for the post-war construction of a more modern, safe, decentralized energy system.
MISSION
Facilitating the integration of the Ukrainian energy system into the European energy space, increasing the level of energy security, effective functioning of the Ukrainian electricity market, and the implementation of energy‑efficient technologies and equipment.
The congress program will include the results of the latest achievements in the implementation of organizational forms and technologies for the development of the electric power industry.
We invite representatives of state authorities, top managers of generating, grid and sales companies, specialists of industrial enterprises, scientific organizations, public associations, manufacturers of electrical products, all interested specialists to join the work of the Congress!
DISCUSSION PLATFORM TOPICS
The Goal of Sustainable Energy Development of Ukraine
Reliable and uninterrupted provision of critical infrastructure with energy resources during forced restrictions from the power system. Consumer protection.
Digitalization of Ukraine's energy system.
Implementation of European and international standards in the sector, staff training.
Creation of additional distributed generation capacities to regulate power system modes.
Replacement of outdated technologies with modern innovations.
Development of distribution grids and small distribution system operators based on the basic principles of Smart Grid.
The potential and real prospects for the development of renewable energy in Ukraine.
The priority direction is improvement of power system balancing capabilities (improvements due to new highly maneuverable capacities, energy storage/regulation systems, export/import of electricity to/from the EU market, demand management measures and consumer balancing incentives).
Two levels of energy system balance formation are considered:
1. Local balance of resources at the level of regions (availability of resources to meet the needs of consumers in capacities that are no less than the needs of critical infrastructure);
2. General balance of resources at the level of energy markets (availability/necessary capacities of nuclear fuel, natural gas, water resources, electric power to meet the needs of regions).
The basis of the creation of a sustainable development system should be the construction of regional smart Smart Grids, which will allow to provide balance in three modes:
1. The operation of regional distribution grids in the mode of normal functioning of the state's energy system.
2. The operation of regional distribution grids in the conditions of limiting the use of resources of the state's energy markets.
3. The operation of regional distribution grids in the local (isolated from the state energy markets) mode.
Dependence of the energy system on coal generation
- Highly maneuverable thermal generation is critically important for balancing the Ukrainian energy system during the transition period.
- The main share of TPPs and CHPs has physically worn and morally outdated equipment (83% of power units of TPPs and CHPs have worked for more than 200,000 hours).
- Low environmental indicators of these objects.
Decarbonization
The potential for further development of renewable energy sources, with a multiplier effect on the economy due to the involvement of the national engineering sector in the production of equipment for RES facilities.
